Covid-19: Officials urge returnees to cancel MIQ ghost bookings so others can come home

“We want Kiwis to be able to get home, so if there are people with vouchers that they won’t be using, we ask them to please go to the MIAS website and cancel the booking they won’t be using as soon as possible so that someone else can get home.” At times over the past 12 months New Zealand’s MIQ system has come under immense strain, with long waits for some New Zealanders wanting to return home due to a lack of vacant spaces. The Government has even had to tell airlines on more than one occasion to freeze airfare bookings into New Zealand to ensure MIQ was not overwhelmed with arrivals.
