On the eve of the 2003/2004 conference, I was ambushed by the press and chartered accountants who were mostly partners of small and medium sized firms.
First, they alleged that President Olusegun Obasanjo had been making more serious accusations against chartered accountants along with disparaging remarks about our role in the management (or mismanagement)of the Nigerian economy. Hence, we should be ready for hellfire and brimstone when he would deliver his address to about 5,000 Chartered Accountants at the International Conference Centre.

The Bill for the Establishment of Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria scaled second reading at the House of Representatives on Thursday, March 29, 2021. The significance of this in the fight against corruption, fraud and criminality in Nigeria is far reaching. Promoted by Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), it is a multi-disciplinary bill crafted to fire from all cylinders the hydra-headed monster that corruption has become in the country. Promoters of the bill have noted with concern the rising state of failure of cases in court and determined to reverse the trend. They believe 100% conviction of fraudsters is possible in courts if the cases are diligently prosecuted backed by hard core evidence using scientific methods of forensics and fraud examination.

Good Governance Africa is sad to announce the passing of its Nigeria chairman, respected corporate figure Oluseyi Bickersteth.
Mr Bickersteth, a former chairman of KPMG Africa, died in his sleep at his home in Lagos on Wednesday morning. He has been GGA’s Nigeria chairman since the office opened in 2015.
He served on the boards of several corporate and other entities, but is perhaps best known for his involvement in Nigeria’s tax reform initiatives.
He chaired a working group that analysed and prioritised strategies to reform the tax system developed by a study group. The report was submitted to the federal government in March 2004.

The Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, SCUML, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has sought improved collaboration between the Commission and Self-Regulatory Organisations, SROs, in the fight against money-laundering and terrorism financing in Nigeria.
Speaking during a three-day courtesy visit to professional bodies, Non-governmental organisations, NGOs and stakeholders in Lagos, the Director of SCUML, Daniel Isei, said that the visit was key in creating awareness in the fight against money laundering and counter- terrorism in Nigeria.
According to,Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Efcc, Daniel Isei, who said NGOs were vulnerable for abuse and misuse, added that the cooperation of the self-regulatory bodies would ensure the success of the preventive measures to check the scourge of terrorism financing in Nigeria.
