Training, research partnership to boost supportive housing statewide WHEDA, CSH join forces in first-of-its-kind effort to promote housing for state’s most vulnerable residents MADISON – Wisconsin’s most vulnerable residents will be the focus of a new partnership by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority and Corporation for Supportive Housing that includes training opportunities, research and prioritized investment. As part of the initiative, the first of its kind in Wisconsin, WHEDA and CSH will kick off a four-part webinar series starting Feb. 23 at 9:30 a.m. The free 90-minute interactive sessions are open to all; participants may choose a single event or all four sessions.

Ann Oliva | Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

Image Ann Oliva is a Visiting Senior Fellow with the Housing team. Prior to joining the Center, she was the Senior Policy Advisor at the Corporation for Supportive Housing. From 2007 to 2017 Oliva was a career federal official at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), most recently overseeing the Department’s multi-billion dollar homelessness and HIV/AIDS housing portfolio as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Needs. She also worked as Director of Programs at the Community Partnership in Washington, D.C. and as a human services consultant in multiple communities nationwide. In 2015, Oliva was named one of the 50 Most Influential Leaders in HUD’s 50-year history and was honored with the True Colors Fund’s True Leader Award. Moreover, she was a finalist for a Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal (Sammie) for the distinction of management excellence in 2011, and was part of an interagency team that won a Sammie for reducing veteran homelessness in

SFP Research Intern Abigail Magnus is an intern with the SFP research team. Abby (she/hers and they/them) recently completed her Master s in Social Work and Economics, focusing her thesis on the long-term social and economic costs of poverty in the United States. She has experience in public health, housing, and economic research. She most recently worked at the State Innovation Exchange and previously worked for the Colorado Senate Majority Leader during the 2018 session. Abby lives in Denver, Colorado with her three roommates and a golden retriever named Olive. She is passionate about social and economic justice and is interested in a career in state fiscal policy.

National homeless expert begins work as a San Diego consultant

SAN DIEGO    Matthew Doherty is bringing a national perspective on homelessness to San Diego, and his new six-month consulting job here is a kind of homecoming. Mayor Todd Gloria recently announced he was hiring Doherty, a former Obama administration expert, to make sure San Diego is spending its resources on proven solutions that get people off the streets and making progress toward ending chronic homelessness. His contract is for $50,000 and calls on him to provide expert guidance and recommendations to inform critical decisions by Gloria regarding departmental structures, delineation of roles, and coordination structures to best drive progress on preventing and ending homelessness in San Diego.
