JAKARTA, May 20 (Reuters) - Indonesia’s exports racked up their strongest rise in 11 years in April, boosted by surging prices of key commodities such as palm oil and coal, data from the statistics bureau showed on Thursday as they beat analysts’ expectations.
The resource-rich nation’s shipments rose 51.94% on a yearly basis to $18.48 billion, for their sharpest increase since 2010, outperforming a figure of 41% forecast in a Reuters poll.
Imports rose 29.93% on the year, compared with 29.81% in the poll, to $16.29 billion.
The April trade surplus was $2.19 billion, up from the previous month’s surplus of $1.56 billion and the poll’s expectation of $1 billion. (Reporting by Gayatri Suroyo and Fransiska Nangoy; Editing by Clarence Fernandez)

WARSAW, May 24 (Reuters) - Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Monday that he did not expect the lignite mine in Turow to close, adding Warsaw wants to negotiate with the Czech Republic and the EU’s top court on the matter.
The Court of Justice of the European Union said last week that Poland must immediately stop mining lignite coal at the Turow mine operated by state-run PGE, handing a win to the Czech government which had sought an order to stop mining there.
“We will start negotiations with the Czech side, but we will also present new arguments to the court,” Morawiecki told a media conference.

LAUNCESTON, Australia (Reuters) - It’s round one to China in its efforts to cool the red-hot iron ore and steel sectors, but victory in future rounds largely depends on making increasingly harder choices, and hoping factors beyond its control work in Beijing’s favour.

The catalyst for the chill was reports that China’s government will strengthen what it termed the management of commodity supply and demand to curb “unreasonable” increases in prices - action that has so far seen the spot iron ore price retreat by almost 15% since its record high of $235.55 a tonne on May 12.
