The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) working dog “Cali” has detected illegal drugs known as “shabu” with an estimated worth of P340,000 inside a plastic package in Zamboanga City.

In a statement, the PCG said the confiscated illegal drugs weighed 50 grams and is set to be smuggled through a passenger ferry. The plan, however, was foiled with the help of ‘Cali’.

Police identified the suspect as Nicanor Montalban, 46, a resident of 1303 F. Santos Avenue, Zapote, Las Pinas City. He is now detained at the Las Pinas City police custodial facility and was charged for illegal possession of drugs.
Montalban was arrested at about 4:30 a.m. along Tramo St., Barangay Zapote, Las Pinas City.
Investigation showed that members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a buy-bust operation that led to the arrest of Montalban who is reportedly the source of shabu proliferating in Barangay Zapote.
Police said Montalban has long been wanted by the police and was placed under the drug watchlist.
