Geely has reported sales of 1,320,217 units in 2020 (including Lynk & Co), beating its 2020 revised annual target. The carmaker says that both its namesake brand and Lynk & Co have seen market share grow, and Geely retains its position as the best-selling Chinese brand for four consecutive years. The 2019 tally was 1,361,560 units, so it’s just slightly lower despite a virtual shutdown of China’s auto market in Q1 due to Covid-19.
China has bounced back from the coronavirus and life there is pretty much normal these days, in contrast to many parts of the world. Geely will “focus on adjusting it product strategy” this year, and with new models on the way, its 2021 sales target is 1.53 million units, a 16% increase from 2020.

Volvo has announced that it will be unveiling an all-new electric vehicle on March 2, 2021. Like the XC40 Recharge, the EV will be underpinned by the compact modular architecture (CMA).
Not much is known about the car yet, but Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson told
Automotive News: “We will keep you a bit in the dark until we show the car, but I promise you it will be a very good-looking car.” When asked if the new EV will replace the discontinued V40, he said: “For Volvo to be profitable we need to focus on higher price, more premium car segments.”
Volvo Confirms Small EV in the Works
Model sharing parent Geely’s new platform, slot below XC40 Recharge.
The upcoming Volvo EV will share the underlying SEA platform developed for the production version of the Lynk & Co. Zero Concept.
Confirming a recent report by TheDetroitBureau.com, Volvo’s CEO said the automaker is developing a new battery-electric vehicle that will slot in under the recently launched XC40 Recharge.
The long-range BEV is part of a broader push into electrification by the Swedish automaker and its Chinese parent company, and the yet unnamed model will share the new electric platform jointly developed by Volvo and Geely Holdings, the Sustainable Experience Architecture, or SEA.

Smart is building an electric SUV, the automaker has confirmed, with the brand best known for its diminutive city car looking to a larger vehicle as it further embraces electrification. The new Smart SUV – as yet unnamed – is likely to be the automaker’s biggest model so far, but company execs promise it’ll continue with the ethos of packing more into a relatively small footprint.
It’ll be Smart’s second big push into EVs, after the automaker’s decision to switch to electrification for the ForTwo city car. These days, Smart is now a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Chinese automaker behemoth Geely, the latter being the company bankrolling Volvo, Polestar, and others.
