To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: On December 30, 2020, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (“DEC”) released guidance for New York State agencies to estimate the value of reducing one ton of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. DEC issued this guidance pursuant to the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act of 2019 (“CLCPA”), which directed DEC, in consultation with the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority ( NYSERDA ), to establish a social cost of carbon in terms of $/metric ton CO 2 equivalent. This guidance, which serves as “a monetary estimate of the value of not emitting a ton of greenhouse gas emissions,”[1] is expected to influence a range of energy and related rulemakings and state policy for years to come.

Town board seeks moratorium on solar energy systems, sets public hearing for Jan. 20 The Batavia Town Board this afternoon called for a “timeout” as it attempts to keep up with the changing landscape of the solar farm industry. During a special meeting via Zoom videoconferencing, the board passed a resolution to hold a public hearing to consider Local Law No. 1 of 2021 entitled, “A Local Law, Establishing a Town of Batavia Moratorium on Solar Energy Systems.” The public hearing is set for 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at Batavia Town Hall on West Main Street Road. The board also voted to declare lead agency status with regard to an environmental review per the State Environmental Quality Review Act and will prepare an assessment form for this action.
