Child advocacy group anticipates child abuse report influx upon kids return to school

KCBX s Angel Russell reports. Child abuse cases in San Luis Obispo County saw a drop during the pandemic, but with in-person schooling starting back up, SLO County child advocacy group C.A.S.A. Court Appointed Special Advocates said they are preparing for an influx of child abuse cases. C.A.S.A. of San Luis Obispo County is made up of volunteers designated by a judge to work in the best interests of children who have been victimized by abuse or neglect. Teresa Tardiff, executive director of C.A.S.A. SLO County, said during the pandemic, child abuse cases took a plunge.

Child Advocacy Center getting ready to open

Russell) Colorado’s 14th Judicial District will soon have a child advocacy center in Steamboat Springs, where children who are victims of abuse or neglect can participate in forensic interviews and get connected to resources. The Brighter World Child Advocacy Center is a sister organization of Advocates of Routt County and will be housed next door to Advocates, but it is a partnership between Advocates, UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center and Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, an organization that works with abused and neglected children in the court system from Routt, Moffat and Grand counties.
