PREMIUM Priti Patel has celebrated the end of free movement between the UK and EU Picture: Dominic Lipinski/PA Wire THE views of Home Office minister Kevin Foster on the skills and labour shortages which are exacerbating the woes of Scottish businesses should not have been surprising at all, given we sadly live in a time of entrenched ideological perspectives. Demand for staff grows at record rate, survey finds

BBC News By Beth Timmins & Daniel Thomas BBC News image copyrightGetty Images Demand for staff surged again in June as lockdown measures were eased, a survey of English recruitment companies suggests. The number of permanent jobs available grew at its fastest rate since 1997, KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) found. Growth in temporary postings was its strongest in nearly 23 years. However, most of the 400 recruitment firms polled reported it was getting harder to find skilled candidates. Vacancies also reached their highest level since the launch of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s (REC) survey almost 24 years ago. “Recruiters are working flat out to fill roles across our economy,” Neil Carberry, chief executive of the REC, said. “The jobs market is improving at the fastest pace we have ever seen, but it is still an unpredictable time.”
