Lakewood Ranch’s Ellie Herrera had never thought about sending her children to a charter school, but after hearing about Lakewood Ranch Charter Academy, she’s taking it into consideration.
Herrera has a sixth grader at R. Dan Nolan Middle School and a first grader at Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School and is preparing for her 5-year-old to enter kindergarten next year.

Charter Schools USA partnered with Southwest Charter Foundation, a nonprofit that runs eight charter schools across Florida including Manatee Charter School, to plan the opening of Lakewood Ranch Charter Academy.
Lakewood Ranch Charter Academy will be a K-12 school focused on science and health with a mission of its students becoming lifelong learners.

PARKERSBURG West Virginia Central Federal credit Union is encouraging financial literacy education to more than 2,000 students and residents in Wood County.
Students and surrounding communities will have free access to Banzai, an award-winning online program and content library allowing users to practice real-world finance from the safety of their home or classroom using any internet-enabled device. At a time when a solid foundation of practical financial knowledge is critical, these resources will make a huge impact on users, the credit union said.
Through the Banzai online courses, students try out managing a budget, saving for a goal and dealing with unexpected financial pitfalls. Teachers are able to remotely monitor and grade student progress.
