McCOOK, Neb. With state officials worried holiday gatherings will result in a spike in COVID-19 cases in the coming days, the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department is working with state and local public health officials and healthcare providers to distribute the recently approved vaccines.
We are asking the public to stop calling healthcare facilities and health departments in search of the vaccine, according to a SWNPHD release. Instead, wait patiently while the vaccine is distributed utilizing the federal guidelines.
The first phase prioritizes those in the highest risk categories, including frontline healthcare workers, emergency medical services and long-term care facilities.

Forty-eight more virus-related deaths were reported, increasing Nebraska s death toll to 1,128.
Nebraska s COVID-19 dashboard indicates 853 residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus. A total of 4,425 Nebraska residents have been hospitalized because of COVID-19
State health experts say Nebraska s total recoveries rose to 65,740.
So far, 753,338 Nebraskans have been tested for the virus, and health experts say 620,451 tests have come back negative.
Cedar County
The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department reported 16 new positive cases on Wednesday, bringing its total to 533. Of those cases, 251 have recovered.
The state health department says there have been two virus-related deaths in Cedar County.

McCOOK, Neb. Community Hospital was excited to begin inoculating the first doses of hope of COVID-19 vaccine to healthcare staff on Tuesday. The allotment of vaccine arrived from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services just after lunch. Staff began receiving inoculations one and a half hours later.
This is truly a memorable and exciting day, said Sharon Conroy, RN, Infectious Control and Employee Health Nurse. We are making history and are hoping this is the beginning of the end of COVID-19, she added.
