During the wave of protests against police brutality that sprung up across the nation after Floyd’s killing, protesters in Nebraska took to the streets too. Dozens were arrested, officers and sheriff’s deputies were pelted with fireworks and bottles of gasoline, curfews were implemented in Lincoln and Omaha and in some cases law enforcement used tear gas and rubber bullets on demonstrators.

Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson Announces Settlement with Omaha Area Health Provider News Provided By Share This Article Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson announced today that his office has settled a lawsuit with an Omaha area mental health provider concerning false claims that the provider submitted to Nebraska Medicaid and its managed care contractors. Between September 1, 2013 and December 31, 2018, Kathleen Wiley and her business, Kathy Wiley, LLC submitted 1201 claims for mental health services to Medicaid. Medicaid paid Wiley $109,274.37 for those services. The state alleged that Wiley failed to maintain proper documentation to prove that the services were actually provided. The Attorney General filed a civil action against Wiley for violating Nebraska’s False Medicaid Claims Act, which allows the state to recover triple the amount that was paid to Wiley.  Wiley settled the matter by paying $200,000 to the state.

US Supreme Court hears high-stakes arguments in biofuels case affecting Iowa, Nebraska

Scientists are working to make the biofuel process more efficient and thus reduce carbon dioxide emissions and mitigate climate change. Oil refiners and biofuels interests squared off in oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday in a case with large implications for Iowa and Nebraska. As is usually the case, the justices grilled lawyers from both sides before submitting the case for a decision later, most likely in a couple of months or more. Hollyfrontier Cheyenne Refining LLC v. Renewable Fuels Association addresses questions over whether small refineries can request exemptions to the Renewable Fuel Standard. The standard sets the amount of biofuels that must be blended into gasoline and diesel. Small refineries are granted hardship exemptions in some cases.
