The latest US monopoly case against the company came from 38 state attorneys general, led by Colorado, piling on to a separate state case, filed the day before, and one from the Justice Department. Colorado s suit accuses Alphabet Inc. s Google of abusing its virtually untrammeled power over internet search traffic.

Google also said the suit s goal is to degrade its search in favor of these middlemen citing web conglomerate IAC/InterActive Corp, run by Google critic Barry Diller, as one example.
On Thursday, after a barrage of antitrust lawsuits, Google mounted a defense of its most valuable business. The response showed it’s not a Ma Bell breakup Google fears, but being forced to alter its crown jewel the search engine.

Google is being sued by 38 US states, accused of trying to make its search engine as dominant inside cars, TVs and speakers as it is in smartphones.
This follows a landmark lawsuit by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) over a similar issue in October.
It is the tech giant s third US government-related lawsuit in two months.
Google said in a blog that redesigning its search engine would deprive Americans of helpful information . We know that scrutiny of big companies is important and we re prepared to answer questions and work through the issues, wrote Google s director of economic policy Adam Cohen.

Google faced its third major lawsuit in two months on Thursday as 38 U.S. states and territories accused the $1 trillion company of abusing its market power to try to make its search engine as dominant inside cars, TVs and speakers as it is in phones.
The lawsuit against the company’s parent Alphabet Inc follows years of complaints that it and other big tech firms including Facebook and Amazon use their massive market power to smite competitors in pursuit of profits.
The states asked the court to find Google guilty of breaking antitrust law and to order an end to any agreements or other behavior that it finds to be exclusionary. It raised the possibility of requiring asset sales but did not go into detail.
