Health Minister K.K. Shylaja on Tuesday inaugurated completed works amounting to ₹5.9 crore under various projects at the Neyyattinkara General Hospital through a videoconferencing event.
Inaugurating the new facilities, she said there had been a sharp jump in the number of people depending on government hospitals with the improvement in infrastructure there.
The facilities that were inaugurated at the hospital include two new pay wards, trauma care, solar power plant, medicine storage centre, HT sub station, generator, toilet block, ICU, renovated operation theatre, and hospital canteen.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 12,120 health workers received vaccine shots in Kerala on the fifth day of the COVID vaccination drive. With this, the number of people who have received the vaccine in the state has become 47,893.
No side effects have been reported so far. Meanwhile, the number of vaccination centers has been increased. Vaccination was carried out in 141 centers. Vaccination was conducted at 16 centers in Ernakulam district, 12 centers in Thiruvananthapuram, 11 centers in Kollam and Kozhikode districts, 10 centers in Kasaragod and 9 centers in the remaining districts.
Vaccination centers have been set up at Aruvikkara Primary Health Center, Neyyattinkara General Hospital and Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram district.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On the fourth day of the Covid vaccination drive, 10,953 health workers were vaccinated in the state, health minister KK Shailaja informed. Vaccination was carried out in 135 centers. Vaccination was conducted at 15 centers in Ernakulam district, 11 centers in Kozhikode, 10 centers in Thiruvananthapuram and 9 centers in the remaining districts.
Ernakulam district had the highest number of health workers (1039) receiving the vaccine. Alappuzha 711, Ernakulam 1039, Idukki 594, Kannur 880, Kasaragod 682, Kollam 819, Kottayam 890, Kozhikode 903, Malappuram 802, Palakkad 712, Pathanamthitta 762, Thiruvananthapuram 639, Thrissur 818 and Wayanad 702 have been vaccinated today. In Thiruvananthapuram district, 262 people were vaccinated on Wednesday. With this, a total of 35,773 health workers were vaccinated. No side effects have been reported so far from the vaccination.

Following eviction bid at Neyyattinkara
A couple who had purportedly immolated themselves in a bid to thwart an eviction at Neyyattinkara a week ago succumbed to burns at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Rajan, 47, of Pongil at Nellimoodu and his wife Ambili, 40. They both had sustained burns after Rajan allegedly set themselves ablaze on December 22. Efforts by doctors to rescue them came to a naught, particularly after they sustained multiple organ failure.
The incident had occurred when the Neyyattinkara police and officials of an advocate commission appointed by the Neyyattinkara Munsiff Court had gone to Rajan’s house to implement a court order.
