Nevada County Public Health officials expressed concern Friday about the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Nevada County.
With a seven-day average of 10.9 cases per day, Nevada County has a higher COVID-19 rate than most counties in the state.
There are currently four active COVID-19 outbreaks in Nevada County. An “outbreak” is defined as three or more cases not within the same household in a 14-day period. While Public Health officials do not share details about specific outbreaks, they said they are seeing cases rise in both eastern and western Nevada County.

On Friday morning, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District recorded 20 active cases of COVID-19 at Truckee High School. The outbreak is the largest in the Tahoe Truckee school district, tripling the school’s total number of cases since February, according to the district s COVID-19 dashboard.
School district officials confirmed the number of cases to SFGATE and said that approximately 150 students are under quarantine at home due to their exposure to people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
All of the COVID-19 cases originated from outside of the school, district officials said.

Access to COVID-19 vaccines continues to expand in Nevada County. Next week, Nevada County Public Health will launch a new vaccine clinic at the Sierra College campus in Grass Valley. With 210 appointments per day, five days a week, the clinic provides a significant expansion in appointment availability.
The clinic at Sierra College will administer the Moderna vaccine, which is available for anyone 18 years and over. Clinic hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, beginning May 4th. Vaccines will be administered in the Sierra College Gymnasium (Building N13), located at 250 Sierra College Drive. Parking in the Sierra College lot is free, so please do not purchase a parking permit at the campus entry.
