There have been two significant announcements concerning Las Vegas resorts this week and both are of interest to the resorts and tourists alike.
The first announcement is that gaming floors are returning to 100 percent capacity. Perhaps equally important, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing.
Let’s take a look at what both announcements mean to Las Vegas casinos.
Operating At Full Capacity
Las Vegas properties have been able to apply to the Nevada Gaming Control Board for waivers so their casinos can return to full capacity based on workforce vaccination rates. The Gaming Board has granted those waivers, and consequently, gaming floors are now able to operate at full capacity. Here’s what that means.
The Cosmopolitan is also not requiring face masks for patrons and employees who have already been fully vaccinated. The Cosmopolitan is situated near the older Jockey Club on Las Vegas Strip’s west side.
The Venetian and neighboring Palazzo casinos are on the Las Vegas Strip’s east side, at the site of the now-demolished Sands Casino. These gaming properties’ fully vaccinated patrons are not longer required to wear masks. However, employees are required to wear face masks.
Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts have also made it clear that patrons as well as employees will still be required to wear face masks unless they provide vaccine verification. The NGCB has also announced that it is up to each gaming property to check whether a visitor has been fully vaccinated.
In response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updating its guidance to say vaccinated individuals can go indoors without masks, major retailers across the country are deliberating their mask policy. There are some major retailers who are following the CDC's guidance and have completely dropped their mask requirements for vaccinated individuals in their stores.Walmart announced on Friday that vaccinated customers do not.
