Newark-Wayne Hospital doctors get COVID-19 vaccine
Local doctors are embracing the COVID-19 vaccine.
Dr. Gregory Heeb, chairman of medicine at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital was the first to receive the vaccine.
It’s part of regional and state leader’s efforts to lead by example in getting vaccinated.
“I’ve been here a long time, and even though I’m chair of the department I do a lot of clinical work in the intensive care unit and COVID area. That’s why I think I was number one,” Heeb told the Finger Lakes Times. “Part of this job is leadership, and that means leading the way. I was happy to do it.”

In fact, Governor Andrew Cuomo has said that if any region is on track to reach 90% capacity of its hospital beds – NY on PAUSE would be enacted. He also warned that a full-shutdown could be coming to the state after January 1st if the state doesn’t reverse the trend of increased hospitalizations.
On Wednesday, Governor Cuomo said that the Finger Lakes and Central New York led the state in hospitalizations and positivity rate.
