The Chairman, Board of Commissioners of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Adeolu Akande, has stated that the full deployment of 5G technology in the country would have positive impact on Nigeriaâs digital economy.
Speaking yesterday at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NCC and the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) on the full deployment of 5G in Abuja, Akande said 5G would build on the successes of the previous generations of 2G, 3G and 4G, adding that spectrum plays a great role in the deployment of 5G.
He said: âSpectrum plays a critical role in realising the full extent of these new capabilities. Thus, 5Gâs full socio-economic impact is dependent on access to a variety of spectrum resources.

5G mobile technology is an improvement on the current 4G technology, and it is already in deployed in some countries like China, Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand.
On Wednesday, Umar Garba Danbatta, executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja.
The MoU was on the use of C-band spectrum for 5G services in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Danbatta said the C-band is the most suitable frequency spectrum band for the deployment of 5G network.
He said the commission initiated negotiation with NigComSat in making some adjustment to its satellite operation to release part of its spectrum holding in the band to facilitate the deployment of 5G in Nigeria.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, accused President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) of “deliberately mismanaging Nigeria’s diversity”, a development, it insisted, was promoting insecurity in the country.
