Governor Okezie Ikpeazu says that the Abia State Government will sustain its partnership with the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in working towards creating a more robust economy for the grassroots with women and youth inclusion in focus.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu stated this on Wednesday, while receiving a delegation of the Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe and his management team who called on him in Government House, Umuahia.
He said it is as a result that the administration is bent on setting up agro-based cottage industries in the 17 LGAs, especially in the areas of palm kernel oil processing, cassava processing and rice milling. According to him, 6 LGAs have been selected for the pilot scheme which would soon take off, while equipment for the industries have since arrived in the state from India.

During the years when defiant academics held sway in tertiary schools in Nigeria, there were very many ‘’hot heads’’ even a child in secondary school destined for critical learning had already been used to reading about in newspapers and possibly watched on television. There were very few newspapers and television stations then, most of them state owned.
However, members of the unions have begun to mount pressure on their leadership to declare fresh strike, while lamenting that after about 14 months the Consequential Adjustment for the new minimum wage came into effect, government is yet to start its implementation.
Other contentious issues, according to some members of the unions who spoke to
Daily Trust include: inconsistencies in the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), delay in renegotiation of FG/NASU and SSANU 2009 agreement, non-payment of retirement benefits of outgone members among others.
Speaking to selected journalists in Abuja during weekend, President of SSANU, Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, noted that the leadership of the unions may succumb to the pressure of its members if government fails to do the needful as soon as possible.

As a result of the incessant plagiarism and other copyright abuses in Nigerian tertiary institutions, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), has pledged institutional support for the newly launched anti-plagiarism software.
Director-General of NCC, Mr. John Asein, made the pledge in a statement made available to Vanguard in Abuja, on Saturday.
The NCC’s pledge follows the presentation of the Eaglescan Plagiarism Detection Software by the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU).
According to the statement, the Eaglescan Plagiarism Detection Software is a cross-platform application built on enterprise Java, having robust big-data and search engines with the capacity for data search and analytics.
