The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that it will increase its development finance interventions to further support start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
This was disclosed by the CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele at the 51st Convocation Lecture of the University of Lagos, Akoka, on Monday in Lagos.
Emefiele said that increased access to finance for start-ups and SMEs was highly essential for the nation’s economy to grow.
According to him, special consideration should be given to the strengthening of physical and ICT infrastructure, to enable SMEs perform more efficiently and become globally competitive.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is to collaborate with universities in designing a framework for entrepreneurship development in order to arrest rising youth unemployment.
The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, while delivering the 51st Convocation Lecture of the University of Lagos, yesterday in Lagos, urged universities to begin sending requests to the CBN for research or for some form of training on entrepreneurial development.
The topic of his lecture was: âNational Development and Knowledge-Economy in the Digital Age: Leapfrogging SMEs in the 21st Century.â
Emefiele also pledged the CBNâs readiness to increase its development finance interventions to support micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs).
