Off The Menu: Artificial intelligence lends hand in recipe development

Among the most significant technological advances of the last few decade, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, have the potential to revolutionize the restaurant industry. Already automation is making its way into fast food kitchens, where it’s taking on repetitive tasks such as flipping burgers and working the fry station.
AI, the smart technology that powers robocalls and helps forecasting models to predict the weather, may also soon play a role in the food service industry, not just by taking on simple tasks but also by dealing with higher order responsibilities like ordering food and writing menus.
Jerry Armstrong, 1966 Texas Western championship team member, dead at 76

EL PASO, Texas Jerry Armstrong, a key member of Texas Western’s famed 1966 men’s basketball national championship team, passed away Thursday morning.
He was 76 years old.
Armstrong saw action in 24 games as a senior during the 1965-66 championship season.
He scored 45 points and grabbed 33 rebounds. Armstrong led the Miners at the free throw line, shooting 87.5 percent (21-24).
The 6-4 forward from Eagleville, Mo., lettered three seasons (1963-66). During his junior campaign, Armstrong shot 42.6 percent from the field and 72 percent from the foul line over 22 contests.

STILLWATER, Okla. – Cade Cunningham hit a jumper with 21 seconds left to give Oklahoma State a two-point lead then sank two free throws with three seconds left to seal an 81-77 victory over Arkansas Saturday afternoon as part of the annual SEC-Big 12 Challenge.
The second half featured four of the six lead changes and 11 of the 13 ties.
Arkansas went up 67-64 on a 3-pointer by Connor Vanover with 6:28 left in the game. Inside the final three minutes, Moses Moody tied the game, 73-73, on a dunk and Davonte Davis knotted the game, 77-77, with 1:18 left.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Liam Robbins needed a couple of calculated steps of development before he plunged into major college competition, a late-blooming 7-footer now in his first season with Minnesota who has proven he belongs in one of the toughest conferences in the country.
The transfer from Drake found quite the collection of big men waiting for him.
“They’re finding a way to our league a lot more than other leagues, maybe. It’s amazing the amount of bigs we have in this league that are really good,” Gophers coach Richard Pitino said.
