NSLC stores expand operating hours

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is expanding its hours of operation. As of today, most stores will be open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 5 p.m. Some smaller stores may have different hours. Just under a month ago as a province-wide lockdown kicked in, store hours were reduced to allow for enhancing cleaning during the third wave of COVID-19. NSLCs continue to operate at 25 per cent capacity as per provincial regulations, so lineups outside stores are possible. That s one of the key findings of an audit released Tuesday by Kim Adair-MacPherson, Nova Scotia s new auditor general. In her first report to the House of Assembly, Adair-MacPherson didn t mince words. Overall we found the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation does not have adequate processes and documentation to ensure important decisions over the procurement and promotion of retail beverage alcohol are made and supported in a consistent manner,  stated her 27-page audit report.

Kim Adair-MacPherson’s report marks the second phase in the performance audit of the NSLC and was released to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly on Tuesday. Adair-MacPherson found the NSLC does not have clear procedures to determine what products it sells and promotes, how to price its merchandise, or where to display it in stores. She also found the corporation lacks formal job descriptions for several management level employees in their customer strategy division, which is responsible for the product selection process.
