Now an author, he shares with The Nairobian how he overcame tragedies to complete university and lead a complete life in Kenya. Tell us a bit about your background.. I am the last born in family of 10 children. My struggles started at my birth, which was very complicated. I was born at home and the midwife came late. I did not cry, and they tried beating me but I could not. I was born tired and sick. Many knew that I was not going to survive. Every day the villagers were waiting for my death. My mother was a woman of faith. She prayed fervently. My health was not improving but my mother did not lose hope. 

Dr Winnie Mucherah Awarded Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship

February 25, 2021 Ball State University’s Dr. Winnie Mucherah has once again earned a fellowship through the Institute of International Education (IIE) and its Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. Mucherah, a professor of Developmental Psychology for Ball State’s Teachers College, was also selected as a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow in 2015 and 2018. She is planning on traveling to Kenya from May 20 to August 10 to work alongside Daystar University’s Dr. Leah Komen. Mucherah’s travels will be dependent on the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. While in Kenya, Mucherah will partner with Komen to host workshops to strengthen the capacity-responsive research skills of junior faculty members and students through active joint research opportunities. They’ll also mentor graduate students in writing and successfully completing theses and dissertations and preparing quality papers and proposals for conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Twitter Nzioka Waita The Nairobi-Mombasa highway is already undergoing infrastructural improvements with construction works in progress to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles along the busy highway.  A section of the major highway between Athi River and the Machakos turn-off is being converted to a dual carriageway at a cost of Ksh5.3 Billion.   The expansion of the 20 kilometre stretch, which is notorious for heavy traffic snarl-ups, is at an advanced stage with 50 percent of the civil works done, but behind schedule as it was to be completed in December 2018.
