TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - About a year ago Pastor David Dykes at Green Acres Baptist Church began conversations about retirement and when a good time would be. He recently announced that he’ll be retiring on August 31, 2021.
On March 1, Pastor David Dykes marked 30 years of preaching, teaching, and leading Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler. In all this time, Dykes says some of the moments that stand out most are from mission projects.

TYLER, Texas On Sunday, February 28, Dr. David Orlo Dykes, Senior Pastor of Green Acres Baptist Church for the past 30 years, announced his plans to retire on August 31, 2021. The time has come for younger leadership to step up and lead the church into the future, Dykes said in a video on Facebook. Franky, I believe some pastors try to hang on too long.
Dykes has been pastor of Green Acres since March of 1991 and in the 66-year history of Green Acres, is the longest-serving pastor and the first to retire.
“I love Tyler and Green Acres, Dykes said. I’m praying that the church will find my replacement before I retire so there will be a seamless transition to the next pastor. I am looking forward to handing the baton to the next generation of younger leadership.”

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - David O. Dykes announced Sunday that he will step down as pastor of Green Acres Baptist Church later this year.
In a video posted to YouTube, Dykes said he will resign his position on August 31, 2021.
“God called me to preach in 1970 when I was just 17 years old and I’ve been doing that ever since,” Dykes said in the video. “A wise person once said, ‘Choose a work you enjoy and you’ll never work another day in your life.’ And that’s the way I feel.
