WAYMART, Pa. A raffle winner got to go on a shopping spree at a supermarket in Wayne County on Saturday night.
Hayes Market along Roosevelt Highway in Waymart sold raffle tickets for a few weeks.
On Saturday, the grand prize winner got the chance for a three-minute sweep throughout the store to grab whatever their heart desired. We had a great time, great way to give back not only to the fire department, for those who are in need of groceries during the pandemic. All the supermarkets were an essential business, and tying in the local community is very important to me, how we can find a way to get back, said Rich Hayes, owner of Hayes Market.

Although Washington County first responders are starting to get the COVID-19 vaccine, not everyone is ready to sign up.
“I haven’t made my mind up yet. I’m still debating,” said Rich Hays, Washington County Emergency Management Agency director.
He said the EMS personnel are the ones responding to calls where they are face-to-face with possible COVID patients, so they were offered the vaccine in this first round.
“I offered it to them, but it’s not mandatory,” he said. “I sent the request to the fire chiefs and they submitted the names of people who wanted to be vaccinated to the health department,” he explained, noting the health department would get in touch with the people on the list to schedule their vaccination.

A resolution passed Thursday by the Washington County Commission was met with a “baffling” court brief by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.
The resolution urged Yost to join in a multi-state suit claiming voter fraud.
“An overwhelming majority of 69.53 percent of Washington County voters expressed their clear preference that Donald J. Trump be re-elected to the Presidency of the United States; and the veracity of the national election results have not been contested to multiple states through dozens of public and private lawsuits and recounts and investigations are ongoing in multiple states,” read Commissioner Kevin Ritter.
The state of Texas, along with some 18 others, have filed suit with the U.S. Supreme Court claiming voter fraud has led to the disenfranchisement of the citizens, the resolution states.
