Second Lady Fetterman, Agriculture Secretary: Bureau that Protects Pennsylvania Dogs Out of Money, Public Safety at Risk
02/17/2021
Harrisburg, PA – Second Lady Gisele Fetterman joined Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding today to stress the urgent need for legislative action to protect the dogs of Pennsylvania. We ve been warning for some time now that without legislative action to increase the dog license fee to fund the Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement that protections wouldn t be able to continue at the same level of service for the dogs and citizens of Pennsylvania, said Redding. It s officially happened, after 25 years with no inflation to the dog license fee the bureau is out of funds and we re seeing the unfortunate, disturbing results.
A total of 17 dogs and puppies were removed from a Lancaster County property Wednesday after concerns were raised over their welfare.
Wednesday s seizure marks the second at the property since November, when SPCA officials seized six puppies there.
The Pennsylvania SPCA s Humane Law Enforcement Officers received a complaint that the owners of a property on Bell Road in Christiana hadn t been to the property since Sunday, according to a news release.
The officers responded and found corroborating evidence supporting the claim. After obtaining a search warrant, officers removed 17 dogs from the property, including five unweaned puppies and their mother.
The dogs removed included 16 German Shepherd-type and one Siberian Husky-type dogs.
