L A May Day Coalition plans march, rally, and car caravan

L.A. May Day Coalition LOS ANGELES On Saturday, May 1, Los Angeles will honor the contributions of immigrants, workers, and those who fight to create a more just society for all. This year marks a new era of possibility in a time of desperately needed change. The work continues under the new administration as the nation enters into what looks to be the phasing down of the COVID-19 pandemic. If it was not clear before, it is clear now that the problems that existed before the pandemic have been exacerbated because of it. The facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, was the first temporary influx care facility of roughly a dozen emergency intake sites the Biden administration scrambled to set up to house thousands of unaccompanied children coming to the United States through the U.S.-Mexico border before they are released to a sponsor or family member.

Biden walks tightrope with business community

Biden is hoping to secure support from key business groups on issues like immigration and climate change, but that relationship will be tested by how he paints corporate America and wealthy households in his push for trillions in new infrastructure spending. Experts say they’ll be closely watching Biden’s words Wednesday evening for any shift in the administration’s approach toward companies. ADVERTISEMENT “The president and his advisers are pragmatic. They know that his political capital right now rests on a foundation of a really strong recovery. . I think you’ll see that reflected in rhetoric. There may be some key choice words or statements, but I would be surprised if there was some inflammatory class rhetoric,” said Dane Stangler, director of strategic initiatives at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

Biden Will Push Immigration Policy In Congressional Address: Report

Font Size: President Joe Biden is expected to emphasize targeted immigration policies with historical bipartisan support at his first congressional address, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. Biden will reportedly ask Congress to pass proposed immigration legislation to provide funding for security upgrades at the border and citizenship opportunities for the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., an administration official who requested anonymity reportedly told the Post. Republicans have criticized Biden’s response to the migrant surge at the southern border, while Democrats are frustrated with the refugee cap, the Post reported. Biden planned to raise former President Donald Trump’s refugee cap of 15,000 to 125,000, though around 15,000 will be admitted this year due to “humanitarian concerns,” the Associated Press reported.
