Stopping the run has been a laughing point of this team since linebacker Paul Posluszny retired following the 2017 season. Do you think we had an offseason emphasis on this? I know this offseason was about Trevor Lawrence and weapons, but we just get hammered by the run – especially in the division. I think all our problems the last two seasons stem from teams having their way with us on the ground. I think we have another disappointing season because of this. Do you see what I saw, O?
I don t know that
all the Jaguars issues in recent seasons were run defense, but a lot of problems sure started there. Either way, the Jaguars

Whether you like all the picks or not, it is encouraging to see such a clear direction with the overall draft class. I can t remember a time when you could look at the entire class and see the big picture. Whether that leads to long-term success is still to be determined, but it is encouraging to see forward progress in a particular direction. Head Coach Urban Meyer has a vision, and it is clear in the way they used their draft picks. Now, let s hope that vision turns into wins!
Meyer and the Jaguars clearly wanted to acquire players in the 2021 NFL Draft with whom they were familiar – and they wanted players with NFL measurables, a blue-chip background and big-time pedigrees. Their nine draft selections as a result were mostly players who had been highly recruited and who played at big schools. They were also mostly players Meyer had recruited and/or players who the Jaguars were able to research extensively to ensure they were the types of players/people

John, I get a little frustrated with the Armchair GMs that ping your inbox with the benefit of their deep draft expertise and criticism. Head Coach Urban Meyer s and General Manager Trent Baalke s legacy of success deserves the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. The number of hours, days and weeks invested in this process by these men and their teams and level of dedication and commitment to excellence is beyond most fan s comprehension at this point.
There s much truth in what you say. Still, given the plethora of experts and the seemingly 24-hour nature of the annual buildup to the NFL Draft, it s unsurprising that fans and observers enter the draft convinced they know every team need, every fit and every player s strengths and weaknesses better than those making the decisions. Given the speculative nature of the draft, it s possible the opinions of some fans/observers on specific players will prove right over time and that the opinions of some t

Luke Farrell knew this was a possibility. From the moment Urban Meyer was hired as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the thought was in the back of Farrell’s mind; he could be reunited with his former coach and the man who gave him an opportunity at the college level. He was and now Meyer has given Farrell at chance at the NFL level as well, after the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Farrell with the 145th pick in the fifth round.
JACKSONVILLE – Least important thing first:
With the 2021 NFL Draft now officially two days in and a day from conclusion, the app form for O-Zone questions is still not working correctly. So much for TrevorMania changing
everything. We therefore ask that you continue submitting question through the website form or via Joehser@gmail.com.
Now, on to the most important thing – i.e., the fan angst that inevitably accompanies every NFL team s draft every year, particularly when teams commit the unforgivable sin of selecting players in a different order than they appear on internet rankings.
Let s get to it …
