(Reuters) - New York State Health officials said on Saturday they are investigating a Brooklyn-based healthcare provider on suspicion it violated state guidelines for distribution of COVID-19 vaccine.
ParCare Community Health Network “may have fraudulently obtained COVID-19 vaccine, transferred it to facilities in other parts of the state in violation of state guidelines and diverted it to members of the public - contrary to the state’s plan to administer it first to frontline healthcare workers, as well as nursing home residents and staffers,” state Health Commissioner Howard Zucker said in a statement. NEW YORK (WABC) Gov. Andrew Cuomo is signing an executive order to fine health care providers that commit coronavirus vaccine fraud up to $1 million and revoke their license to practice.
The move comes after the ParCare clinic was found to have defrauded the state, prompting a criminal investigation.
New York State Police will refer the alleged misappropriation of the Moderna vaccine by ParCare to the New York Attorney General s office, Cuomo said Monday. Were you sent the vaccine because you made false representations, that s the question, Cuomo said.
