Provincial budget includes restoration funds for historic church

Provincial funds will ensure a National Historic Site of Canada will be preserved and enjoyed for future generations to come. The Holy Trinity Anglican Church near Stanley Mission wasn’t forgotten in Tuesday’s budget as approximately $180,000 was approved for preparation, painting, finishing and some refurbishing to the interior and exterior of the church. Work at the site is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2021. According to information from the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport, the church was built between 1854 and 1860, and has been in use ever since. “It’s been a big part of the community,” said Stanley Mission director of operation Gordon Hardlotte. “The whole community uses it quite a bit for weddings and special services.”

Wed Apr 07 2021 The All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged religious leaders in the country to hold political leaders accountable and not to keep silent when politicians go wrong. Secretary of the APC Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe gave the charge yesterday at the 80th birthday, thanksgiving and book launch of Venerable Emmanuel O. Ajayi (rtd) at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Oboroke, Ihima Kogi state. He also asked religious leaders not to succumb to blackmail but continue to hold public officials accountable at all times. “Clerics should not be silent when politicians go wrong. They should continue holding the political class accountable to the people that we can have the kind of society we desire,” he said.
