Although the City Council agenda did not include the name of the contractor who won the bid, the mayor’s office said later that it was Monumental Contracting Service, a minority-owned firm based in Birmingham. Rick Journey, spokesman for Mayor Randall Woodfin’s office, said that construction is expected to be completed by May.

The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. on January 17. Police responded to the 200 block of 62nd Street South on report of a shot spotter alert at 2:45 a.m. Police reports said when they arrived on the scene, they located several “spent shell casings” and blood on the ground.
