WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue is still considering requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for the next academic year, President Mitch Daniels said Friday, even as a growing number of colleges and universities around the country are putting those requirements in place for students.  Following a Trustees meeting Friday, Daniels told the Journal & Courier Purdue has not decided to create such a requirement as of yet.

Under an academic restructuring that takes effect July 1, the university will have a new College of Liberal Arts and a new College of Science. The School of Education also will have an elevated profile as a stand-alone unit, according to a news release. “This restructuring provides the university with greater clarity in the way we prepare our students, which we believe will aid in their success before and after they earn their Purdue degree,” Chancellor Ronald Elsenbaumer said in a statement.

Upcoming changes to the academic organizational structure at Purdue University Fort Wayne will include the creation of two new colleges and an elevated profile for the School of Education as a standalone unit. These and other modifications were approved Friday by the Purdue University Board of Trustees. Beginning July 1, the existing College of Arts and Sciences will be split into two new colleges focusing on liberal arts and science, respectively. The School of Education s transition to a structure comparable to that of the Doermer School of Business will come as part of a dissolution of the College of Professional Studies.

It fielded more requests for financial assistance, and it worked to educate its community about the importance of seeking medical treatment and following social distancing guidelines, according to a university news release. That experience prompted Rivera, a coalition board member, to focus his honors research project on the coronavirus s effect on the region s Hispanic and Latino communities, the release said. “I felt that the problems being tackled by the Hispanic and Latino communities were unique and nuanced among the general population,” Rivera said in a statement.
