The company s investment arm, United Airlines Ventures (UAV), as well as its partners Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) and Mesa Airlines, have announced a new investment in Gothenburg, Sweden–based electric aircraft startup Heart Aerospace, which will fast track the development of its ES-19 electric aircraft to begin commercial service by 2026.

A United spokesperson declined to disclose the financial terms of the investment. Heart Aerospace CEO Anders Forslund confirmed to FOX Business that the startup raised a total $35 million from investors in its latest funding round.

On Tuesday, United Airlines announced that its venture capital arm,
United Airlines Ventures, along with climate-focused venture capital firm Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV) and Mesa Airlines, has invested in electric aircraft (EAV) startup Heart Aerospace. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, Heart is developing the
ES-19, a 19-seat electric aircraft that, the company says, has the potential to fly customers up to 250 miles before the end of this decade.
In addition to UAV’s investment, United Airlines has conditionally agreed to purchase 100 ES-19 aircraft, once the aircraft meet United’s safety, business and operating requirements. Mesa Airlines, United’s key strategic partner in bringing electric aircraft into commercial service, has also agreed to add 100 ES-19 aircraft to its fleet, subject to similar requirements.
