ActUpKU coalition calls for KUnity to be disqualified over alleged election violations

University of Kansas Student Senate coalition ActUpKU filed a list of violations Thursday against the KUnity coalition and called for KUnity to be disqualified from the election to decide the next student body president and vice president. The complaint, filed by ActUpKU Student Body Vice Presidential candidate Ethan Roark, alleged that KUnity violated the Senate’s election rules against using food or drink to campaign in a recent Instagram post.  In the post, KUnity advertised students who wore a campaign button to three different Lawrence establishments could receive a discount or free food in return. ActUpKU candidates Niya McAdoo and Ethan Roark filed an election violation against KUnity candidates Andrew Moore and Will Cook, siting that KUnity s partnership with businesses across Lawrence was in direct violation of SSRR Article 7, Section 5.3.

KU Student Senate calls for provost town hall over DEIB reorganization and passes $31 15 fee increase

In a meeting Wednesday night, the University of Kansas Student Senate voted to increase the required student fee by $31.15 next year and called on Provost Barbara Bichelmeyer to meet with students to explain the decision to reorganize the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging office. The new student fee package will be $523.10 The student fee package, which all students at KU are required to pay at the beginning of each semester, is allocated by Student Senate to fund a variety of organizations at KU.  The largest increase to the fee package will go to the student health fee, which was increased by $12 from last year. Within the Student Health Fee, Watkins Health Center will get a $10 increase and Counseling and Psychological Services will get a $2 increase.

KU Student Senate members announce coalition KUnity for Student Body President and Vice President

University of Kansas Student Senate Chief of Staff Addison Henson and Student Senate Treasurer Andrew Moore have announced they are running for Student Body President and Vice President as part of the coalition “KUnity” in an Instagram post last week.  Henson and Moore decided to run in a coalition because they want to represent a lot of students and to include a lot of people to help them succeed. “We have already enlisted dozens of people who are dedicated to making KU a better place,” Moore said. “When you’re voting for us, you’re not just voting for two people.”
