Ice Storm Restoration Tuesday Update from Kentucky Electric Cooperatives

Photo: Jackson Energy Cooperative As electric cooperatives made more significant progress Tuesday restoring power in Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky, a co-op lineman working to restore power in Wolfe County was seriously injured Tuesday morning when the pole he was climbing broke off just below the ground. The Licking Valley RECC lineman had secured himself near the top of the pole in accordance with safety protocol when the pole broke. The veteran lineman fell 27 feet, making impact in a small creek in the Cave Branch area near Bethany. Fellow linemen rushed to his aid, releasing him from the pole restraints and rescuing him from the icy water. They wrapped the seriously injured lineman with their jackets to keep him warm until emergency crews arrived.

Lebanon Police continue investigation into fatal hit and run

The Lebanon Police Department (LPD) has identified a person of interest in a hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a Lebanon man on Dec. 29, according to Lebanon Police Assistant Chief Greg Young, “It’s not like we have nothing,” Young said. “We do have a little bit. We’re working on building that up to where we can officially say the person of interest has turned into an accused.” According to a media release from the LPD, at approximately 4:23 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, LPD received a call reporting an accident involving a pedestrian. Lebanon police officers and Marion County EMS responded to Hood Avenue near the intersection with Shelby Street and found Jerry Berentz, 81, of 306 Shelby Street lying in the roadway and badly injured.

Monticello man charged with murder after fatal collision

Jan 12, 2021 A Monticello man is facing a murder charge following a fatal crash on Ky. 90 in Clinton County on Saturday evening. Jesse Wayne Brown, 31, was arrested by Kentucky State Police on charges including Murder, first-degree Wanton Endangerment; Speeding 26 mph or greater; Operating a Motor Vehicle While a Motor Vehicle DUI 1st offense, aggravating circumstance; and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. KSP s Columbia Post received a call Saturday evening from Clinton County 911 Dispatch requesting assistance on a two-vehicle collision that had resulted in a fatality. The preliminary investigation indicates that Jesse Brown was driving a 1999 Chevy Silverado westbound on Ky. 90. Brown was reported to be holding a seven-month-old child in his lap when he entered the eastbound lane and struck a 2012 Ford Focus operated by 61-year-old Debra Brown of Albany head on. Debra Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clinton County Coroner.

(LEX 18) — Friends and family members of the 5-year-old boy and his mother both injured in a drive-by shooting in Lexington have set up fundraisers for the boy who they say will now need special medical attention for the rest of his life. Dyana Bowen, a housemate for the mother, Cacy Roach Roberts, provided LEX 18 with an update on the condition of the boy, Malakai Roberts, on Tuesday. Bowen said Malakai was shot through the head when multiple bullets were fired into the Roberts home at about 2:13 a.m. Monday while they were visiting with family on Catera Trace. The mother was shot in the left bicep. Both are currently undergoing treatment at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
