3D printing could improve surgery success rates, boost recovery and ease hospital pressures, new research shows

Search jobs 25-May-2021 3D printing could improve surgery success rates, boost recovery and ease hospital pressures, new research shows A study into the costs versus benefits of introducing 3D printing technology into hospitals has shown that not only can such innovations aid complicated surgeries, but they can also be a key tool in easing both time and financial pressures for hospitals. The study, undertaken by Dr Atanu Chaudhuri, Associate Professor in Technology and Operations Management at Durham University Business School, alongside colleagues at ORT Braude College of Engineering in Israel, and the University of Southern Denmark, assessed the effectiveness of 3D printing technologies used in hospitals.

Følgeforskningscenter With a 40,000 Euro grant from the Danish government, researchers from four Danish universities have set up the new fusion consortium DANfusion. This new initiative will serve as a forum where these physics and engineering researchers can come together to work on research and development for fusion.

Can Iranian drone tech shift Middle East s strategic balance of power?

IRBIL, IRAQ: The drone threat posed to US and coalition personnel by Iran-backed militias is growing, and defenses against such threats remain limited particularly in the face of Tehran’s growing capabilities. That was the clear message delivered by the US military commander in the Middle East during his most recent visit to Iraq. Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie’s warning came in the wake of a rash of drone attacks launched by Iran’s proxies and allied groups in the region against coalition positions and regional partners of the US, a development viewed by many as a sign of a shift in the strategic balance of power.

Venous Thromboembolic Event Rates Up With ChAdOx1-S Vaccine

May 20, 2021 WEDNESDAY, May 19, 2021 (HealthDay News) The rates of venous thromboembolic events, including cerebral venous thrombosis, are increased among recipients of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine ChAdOx1-S, although the absolute rates are small, according to a study published online May 5 in The BMJ. Anton Pottegård, Ph.D., from the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, and colleagues conducted a population-based study involving all people aged 18 to 65 years who received a first vaccination with ChAdOx1-S from Feb. 9 to March 11, 2021 (148,792 people in Denmark and 132,472 in Norway). The general populations of Denmark and Norway served as comparator controls. The researchers found that the standardized morbidity ratio for arterial events was 0.97 (95 percent confidence interval, 0.77 to 1.20) among 281,264 people who received ChAdOx1-S. The vaccinated cohort had 59 venous thromboembolic events compared with 30 expected events based on the incidence rates in the gen
