UNM researchers study polarization and spin dynamics in electron storage rings

UNM researchers study polarization and spin dynamics in electron storage rings June 16, 2021 A group of University of New Mexico researchers are working on two Department of Energy (DOE) research grants that investigate the dynamics of spin-polarized electron beams in existing and planned high energy storage rings. Research Professor Klaus Heinemann and Emeritus Professor Jim Ellison of UNM s Department of Mathematics and Statistics have been leading this six-year, $1.6 million project which is now in its second three-year cycle. “This research relates to the design and commission of the next generation of particle physics machines,” Heinemann said. Applications already pouring in for 2022 community solar project

Community solar projects in New Mexico won’t start until April 2022 as the Public Regulation Commission (PRC) was conducting a rulemaking required by a bill passed during the State’s 2021 Legislative Session. The Community Solar Act was signed into law earlier this year after being introduced and failing during previous sessions. It called on the PRC to develop regulations that would allow community solar projects across the state. Community solar allows customers to tap into shared “solar gardens” and receive credits on their electrical bills. The gardens are smaller than large-scale utility solar installations but allow multiple users as opposed to residential, rooftop solar.
