When Danny Gonzales said he was open to playing anyone, he wasn’t kidding.  The University of New Mexico has officially added a road game at the University of Michigan.  That game will now serve as the season opener for the 2025 season, and it completes the 2025 non-conference opponent slate. UNM will travel to Ann Arbor to open the season on Saturday, August 30.  Game time and television information will not become available until the spring of 2025 at the earliest.  The contest is the second major conference opponent for 2025 as UNM also travels to face UCLA on September 13 of that year.  UNM’s two non-conference opponents for 2025 are Idaho State at University Stadium on September 6 and New Mexico State, although no date is set yet for that game.

Date Time UNM researchers will use grant to blend traditional craft with computational design Four researchers from several disciplines at The University of New Mexico recently were awarded a three-year National Science Foundation grant for their project to create new career opportunities for rural craftspeople by blending traditional craft practices with computational fabrication. The project, Expanding Rural Ceramics Craft and Computational Fabrication: A Synergy, is led by Leah Buechley, principal investigator and professor from the Department of Computer Science. According to the proposal, funding will be used to partner with rural craftspeople in New Mexico and California to co-develop novel software, construction techniques, artifacts, and business strategies that integrate computational design, digital fabrication, and traditional craft.

Funded with a five-year, $8 million award from the NSF, the initiative convenes, catalyzes and enables the engineering community to identify nascent opportunities and priorities for engineering-led innovative, high-impact, cross-domain, fundamental research that addresses national, global and societal needs.
