NEW YORK, N.Y. (WWNY) - College students will likely need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before they can attend New Yorkâs public universities in person in the fall.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that it affects all State University of New York and City University of New York students and depends on the status of vaccines by the fall semester.
Binghamton University Students Will Need Covid-19 Vaccination
All Binghamton University and SUNY Broome students will be required to have received a Covid-19 vaccination before they can attend fall semester in-person classes.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the policy for the entire State University of New York system Monday morning. He said he also is encouraging private colleges and universities to impose the requirement.
Cornell University, Ithaca College and Syracuse University had previously announced some Covid-19 vaccination requirements for the fall semester.
In past interviews, Binghamton University president Harvey Stenger said he didn t know whether the SUNY system would mandate student vaccination. He noted that a high percentage of Binghamton students already were fully vaccinated.

SYRACUSE, NY – Onondaga Community College will celebrate its 58th commencement ceremony this Saturday, May 15 at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. in the SRC Arena, located at Onondaga Community College, 4585 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse, NY 13215-4585.
Over 400 students total will participate in the three ceremonies. These students completed their coursework in either the fall 2020, spring 2021, or summer 2021 semesters. To meet all social distance requirements the following procedures are in place.
All event attendees, including members of the media, must have either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within three days of the ceremonies. Each student may bring a maximum of two guests.

Students at the State University of New York and the City University of New York must get vaccinated against the coronavirus to attend classes this fall, Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday.
The requirement, affecting more than 435,000 full-time students, comes as Cuomo and other officials offer a slew of incentives aimed at encouraging people to get inoculated as they see vaccine demand declining.
