DeMarte has announced the college’s intention to resume in-person operations for the fall 2021 semester. “The COVID-19 pandemic has tested our abilities in a variety of ways,” DeMarte said in a recent message to the campus community. “Despite the adversity, I am proud of how we have responded and am excited to move forward in regaining our pre-pandemic momentum.” With the COVID-19 vaccine becoming more widely available to the general public, the first step toward regaining that momentum, DeMarte explained, “is welcoming students, faculty, and  staff back to campus for the fall semester.”

The county health department reported there were 156 opioid deaths in 2020, up from 127 in 2019, a 23% increase. The 2020 opioid death toll is the highest in Onondaga County since the health department began tracking the numbers at the start of the opioid epidemic in 2012. The previous record high was 142 opioid deaths in 2016.

SUNY Supplying Single-dose COVID-19 Vaccines to Their Students The State University of New York (SUNY) has announced that SUNY is supplying COVID-19 vaccines for their students. SUNY Officials say they are targeting residential students in their college communities for the first round of vaccinations and have secured nearly 19,000 single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines to be distributed across 34 campuses across New York State before the end of the spring semester which is winding down quickly. Get our free mobile app According to SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras, through this vaccination program, SUNY has secured its first reserved shipment of Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate SUNY residential students prior to their departure for summer break. Because the J&J vaccine requires just one dose, thousands of students scheduled to finish the semester in early May can get their one shot without having to wait weeks for a second dose before going home.
