The band only made two enigmatic records in the late ’80s and broke up before the second one, “Spiderland,” was released; their legend started growing immediately. As the years passed, the love for that strange, intense, abstract “rock” record seemed to grow exponentially. Now the album is regularly hailed as the big bang for the genre called “post-rock” and leaves a trail of words like “revolutionary,” “iconic” and “groundbreaking” in its wake.

AMHERST If you find yourself in a car with someone outside your household during the COVID-19 pandemic, your instinct may be to roll down your window. But that might not be the safest option to protect yourself from infection.
Rolling down all the windows isn’t feasible during cold or wet weather. Instead, a University of Massachusetts Amherst physicist found reason to believe opening the front window on the right side and the rear window on the left side might best protect the driver and a backseat passenger from the hundreds of aerosol particles released in every human breath.

By the time the men’s clothing store Jonathan Reid closed its doors at the Hampshire Mall, Sidney R. Lancto had worked there nearly half his life.
Along the way he was a bit player in countless job interviews, proms, weddings and funerals, selling suits and renting tuxedos that would live on in frames and photo albums across the Pioneer Valley and beyond. As the store manager in Hadley and at a location at the Holyoke Mall in the early 1980s, he also hired hundreds of workers. He saw just as many go on to other jobs and other plans.
