One of the longest-running radio hosts in Minnesota will call it a career this week.
Dave Lee s 32-year career at WCCO Radio News Talk 830 will end when he hosts the morning news on Friday. Lee announced in early January that he would be retiring from The Good Neighbor at the end of April.
Now that the time is near, he s being celebrated by the station with what it s calling Farewell Week.
Each day this week the station will surprise Lee with special guests. Lee said his longtime producer, Jimmy Erickson, won t even tell me who they are this week.
A year later, the Johnsons applied again, and again Pine County said no.
Finally, worn down by constant anxiety and repeated trips to the emergency room, the Johnsons turned to their last resort: They sold their house and moved 40 miles west to Kanabec County.
Two months later, Michaela was approved for more than $60,000 a year in home care and medical equipment.
“You get to the point where you’re told ‘no’ so many times that you have no choice: You have to pack up and leave,” Michelle Johnson said from the family’s new home in Mora.
The Johnsons are among tens of thousands of Minnesota families whose lives are upended by the arbitrary and confusing way Minnesota distributes money designed to help people with severe disabilities. This coveted assistance, disbursed by counties in a form known as Medicaid “waivers,’’ supplies people who have qualifying disabilities with more than $3 billion a year.

A benefit for Huxli Collom will be held on April 13 and May 1. Collom, 17 months old, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
The April 13 support day will be at Drastic Measures Brewing from 3-10 p.m. where 50% of the entire day’s proceeds will go to the family. The May 1 benefit will be at the Woodtick Lounge in Hewitt from 3-7 p.m. The dinner is a free will donation along with a split-the-pot and silent auction that end at 6 p.m.
