The attack resulted in dozens of arrests and the death of five people, including a female protester and a U.S. Capitol police officer. A federal murder investigation has opened into the death of the officer. Greenberger explained what charges the protesters might face as well as the possible invocation of the 25th Amendment to declare presidential incapacity and remove Trump from office just days before his term is scheduled to end. Lawmakers have threatened impeachment if Trump is not removed.

Scientists debate as United States mulls protection Jan. 8, 2021 , 3:00 PM Last month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) declared that one of North America’s best known butterflies, the monarch, might be in trouble. But the agency put off protecting the insect under the federal Endangered Species Act. In the meantime, researchers are continuing to debate how best to gauge the health of monarch populations. In recent months dueling preprints and publications have intensified the debate. In one camp: researchers who have documented drastic declines in the number of monarchs in Mexico and other areas where some butterflies spend the winter. They believe the species needs immediate help, particularly by protecting and expanding the milkweed-filled meadows where its larvae feed. 2020 Mississippi River Watershed Report Card Released

The 2020 grade received is a C- grade  The 2020 grade received is a C- grade and only a slight improvement on the D+ grade the group issued for the watershed in its first report in 2015. The group developed to help improve management of the Mississippi River Watershed. The 2020 report card saw modest improvements in the following indices: hunting and fishing licenses, floodplain population, and infrastructure maintenance and condition, according to the America’s Watershed Initiative. The 2020 Mississippi River Watershed Report Card includes several improved indicators and analysis methods for water quality in: water quality and ecosystems; flood control and risk management; transportation; and water supply.
