How and when did the business get started?
Suburban Asphalt was founded on June 1, 1965 by brothers Terry Buss Sr. and Roger Buss. Jane “Spence” Buss, Terry’s wife, paid the bills and answered the phone for the company while raising their children. The company began by purchasing two used Chevy dump trucks for $500 each, a used tractor for grading, drag paver, and a roller. Terry and Roger could always be identified when on the road because of their love for driving El Camino’s. The company grew steadily over the years with the acquisition of additional equipment, hiring of key employees and family members along the way.

Like many good things, the annual Festival of Films in French started small. It debuted nearly a quarter century ago in a UW-Milwaukee classroom, the freelance project of instructors from the universityâs French department. It moved to the campusâ Union Cinema and expanded the size and scope of programming to embrace films from the entire francophone world. Last yearâs FFF ran as usual at the Union Cinema, just weeks before the pandemic hit. This year, with COVID still out of control, the festival will be virtual, running Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 19-21.
