WASHINGTON (NYTIMES, AFP) - The US Food and Drug Administration authorised Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use on Friday (Dec 11), according to two people with knowledge of the decision who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss it. The action means millions of highly vulnerable people will begin receiving the vaccine within days. The authorisation is a historic turning point in a pandemic that has taken more than 290,000 lives in the United States. President Donald Trump said the US would start administering the vaccine “in less than 24 hours . “Through our partnership with FedEx and UPS, we have already begun shipping the vaccine to every state and zip code in the country,” he said, adding that governors would decide who would receive the shots first in their states.
