Fair Housing Hot Topics: What You Need To Know
Free Webinar To Be Offered On May 11 Wednesday, May 5, 2021
The city is offering a free webinar covering fair housing on May 11 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The webinar, which is sponsored by the city’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Economic and Community Development in partnership with the Tennessee Human Rights Commission, will provide attendees with updates, resources, best practices and discuss hot topic issues related to fair housing in Tennessee and across the country.
The webinar will feature presentations by Tracy McCracken, director of the Fair Housing, National Community Reinvestment Coalition; Emily O Donnell, attorney and community leader; and Beverly Watts, executive director of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission.

In a joint event, the Pontiaki Estia and the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCOMV) are teaming up to present a lecture entitled Pontian Genocide Memorial Seminar: William Lloyd and the Liberation of Pontus.
Dean Kalimniou will present the seminar on Thursday 13 May, at 7:00pm, at the Greek Centre as part of the Greek History and Culture Seminars, offered by the GCOMV.
While there was little pre-War engagement with Pontus in Australia, one man, William Lloyd, did his utmost to draw attention to the plight of the Greeks of Pontus and call for their independence. His story is as fascinating as is the process of verifying the astonishing events that colour it.
Gov. Spencer Cox held a ceremonial signing of H.B. 313 on Wednesday changing the name of the Department of Heritage & Arts to the Department of Cultural & Community Engagement.
The Legislature approved the name change during this year’s general session and it becomes official on May 5. On that day, the department will launch a new website at community.utah.gov and unveil a new department logo.
During the past few years, the department has expanded its roles and constituencies. In 2019, the STEM Action Center joined the department as its seventh division, complementing existing educational programs.
Department Executive Director Jill Remington Love said in 2020, the Division of Multicultural Affairs was created and the division became a leading voice for social equity during the COVID pandemic.

Subscriber only A PETITION backed by a Gold Coast MP wants youth offenders to be stripped of their social media and their parents to be held responsible for their crimes. The petition, started by former One Nation election candidate Georgie Batty, also calls for repeat offenders to undergo a minimum six-month diversion program , a Child Safety home assessment before offenders can go home and functional family therapy . The number of child offenders breaking into homes, stealing cars and joy-riding on the Gold Coast and Logan has risen by more than 500 in just 12 months, according to police figures.

An Ohio woman claims that racial bias was at the heart of an interaction she had at a Brighton hotel last week.
Rosie Ellis of Columbus, Ohio took to social media to tell her story, saying she and her family attended her daughterâs dance competition last weekend and opted to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Brighton on Sunday night. Ellis says she noticed that none of the staff at the hotel were wearing masks, and that when she checked out on Monday morning she decided to address the issue.
