SAN JOSE, Calif. Nine people were killed in a shooting on Wednesday, May 26, in San Jose at a Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) railyard. We get up every morning, safe in the belief that when we go to work, we will come back to our family and loved ones. That did not happen for Adrian, Alex, Jose, Lars, Michael, Paul, Taptejdeep and Timothy, Evelynn Tran, acting General Manager and CEO of VTA, said at the press conference.
Multiple members of the VTA spoke at the press conference mentioning how much of a family the VTA is. They also mentioned two victim s funds.
The suspect was also dead, authorities said.
Santa Clara County sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Russell Davis said the suspect was an employee of the Valley Transportation Authority, which provides bus, light rail and other transit services throughout Santa Clara County, the largest county in the Bay Area.
Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said it was “undetermined” how the shooter died.

The shooting took place at around 6:30am at a light rail facility in San Jose next door to the sheriff’s department and across a freeway from the airport. The facility is a transit control centre that stores trains and has a maintenance yard.

Nine people were killed and others were injured after a gunman opened fire at San Jose’s Valley Transportation Authority control center and rail yard Wednesday morning, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said. The suspected gunman is also dead, authorities said. Multiple news outlets have identified Samuel J. Cassidy, a 57-year-old VTA employee, as the suspect. Also that morning, two fires broke out, with one of them at a home owned by Cassidy, records show.
