Commissioners to consider appointment for auditor-treasurer | News, Sports, Jobs

fbusch@nujournal.com NEW ULM Brown County commissioners will host a public hearing at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 27 to consider changing the Brown County Auditor-Treasurer (A-T) position from elected to appointed. Legislation in 2017 allows county boards to make the decision to move certain offices from elected to appointed positions. Brown County expects to have an A-T office vacancy this year due to a retirement. The process to change an elected position to appointed takes several months. All interested parties are asked to sign in for the public hearing. After the public hearing, commissioners may vote on the issue or table it for a future meeting.

Commissioners to consider lower gun permit fee for vets | News, Sports, Jobs

fbusch@nujournal.com NEW ULM Brown County Commissioners will consider amending the sheriff’s office fee to issue permits to carry guns for veterans, National Guard, Reservists or active duty U.S. Armed Forces members, to $25 on Tuesday. The board meeting begins in the Brown County Law Enforcement Center training room at 9 a.m. April 6. Meetings will continue there until further notice. Zoom access is available by calling Brown County Administraiton at 507-233-6600. Current permit to carry fees are $100 for new permits, $75 for renewals prior to 90 days of expiration, $85 for up to 30 days of expiration and $10 for duplicate permits, including address changes.

Brown County Sheriff s Report

The following calls were responded to by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department between March 1 and March 8. On Monday, March 8 at about 9:54 a.m. Deputy Marvin Simpson received a phone call from Lt. Pete Bastardo. This was in regard to unwanted subject. The address of the call was unknown at the time. Upon meeting with the complaint, deputies were advised the address was CR 270. The complainant stated his step-grandson was no longer wanted at the property for multiple reasons. Deputies made contact with the step-grandson at the back residence on the property. Deputy Simpson advised the step-grandson the complainant would like him to leave the property. The step-grandson willingly and on his own free will left the property. Deputy Simpson transported the step-grandson to the Royal Inn. Deputy Simpson issued a Criminal Trespass Warning to the step-grandson, by request of the complaint.
