Old Dominion Electric Cooperative announced Thursday a goal to achieve net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.
ODEC has also set an interim goal to reduce its carbon intensity by 50 percent from 2005 levels by 2030.
The wholesale power provider of 11-member electric distribution cooperatives will be the second generation and transmission cooperative in the country to set a net zero carbon goal.
Gov. Ralph Northam Jan. 30 appointed Halifax County Board of Supervisors Chairman, the Honorable Hubert Pannell, to the Southern Virginia Higher Education Centerâs Board of Trustees.
The governor also reappointed Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative and EMPOWER Broadband, Inc., CEO Mr. John Lee to the Board of Trustees.
Pannell and Lee have been appointed to serve four-year terms.
âThe SVHEC has been blessed with a long history of solid board leadership. Chairman Pannellâs appointment to the SVHEC Board of Trustees follows in this tradition, said Dr. Betty Adams, SVHEC Executive Director. His extensive record of community service, including his recent and impeccable leadership of the Halifax County Board of Supervisors during the pandemic, will serve us well.âÂ
REC Announces Net Bill Reduction in 2021
Fredericksburg, Va. – Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) has announced a net decrease to REC member-owners’ electric bills. This reduction is the result of a decrease in the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) for 2021, which is being partially offset by a modest rate increase to distribution costs.
A typical residential member-owner using 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per month will see a bill reduction of nearly $6 per month beginning in January. The bill decreases are a result of REC passing along cost reductions from its wholesale power provider, Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC).
“Ultimately, the combination of ODEC’s long-term power contracts and new investment in power generation, including a growing mix of renewable sources, will reflect as a reduction to the PCA,” explained Matt Faulconer, REC’s manager of external affairs.
