KUALA LUMPUR: Communities joined governments across the world in condemning Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, appealing for peace to be restored.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on the UN Security Council to seek an early de-escalation of violence between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers.
“Regrettably, the Security Council has so far failed to reach an agreement, with the United States standing on the opposite side of international justice, ” the state-run Xinhua News Agency quoted Wang as saying in a phone conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip The Gaza Health Ministry says the death toll from Israeli strikes on a main thoroughfare in Gaza City has climbed to 33, including 12 women and eight children. It was the deadliest single attack since heavy fighting between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers erupted nearly a week ago.

BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expounded on China s position on the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict during a phone talk with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
In recent days, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has continuously escalated, causing huge casualties, which is distressing, said Wang, before presenting China s views and proposals on the issue.
